Crash Bandicoot 2 N-Tranced

·2 mins

🎮 Game Boy Advance ⏳ 6 hours ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)

Strong GBA Sequel #

This title is an impressive continuation of Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure and one of the strongest 2D interpretations of the franchise. The game successfully adapts the spirit of the PlayStation classics into the GBA’s limited hardware, delivering tight controls, colorful visuals, and inventive level design. The story picks up after the first GBA title, with the villain N. Tropy teaming up with a new foe, N. Trance, to brainwash Crash’s friends.

Faithful Crash Gameplay #

While the plot is light and mostly serves as a backdrop for the action, it adds a fun sense of continuity and personality. The gameplay remains faithful to the series’ roots: precise jumps, crate-smashing, and collecting crystals and gems across themed worlds. The mix of forward-scrolling 3D-style levels and classic side-scrolling stages keeps things fresh, and the addition of special stages, like jetpack or surfboard segments, adds variety and challenge.

Balanced Challenge & Polish #

SImilar to other GBA Crash, this feels like playing the side-scrolling levels of the regular PlayStation 3D Crash, and with occasional alternative levels. The difficulty is well balanced, starting accessible and ramping up to satisfy veterans of the series. Replayability is strong, thanks to hidden collectibles and time trials that encourage mastery of each stage. On the technical side, N-Tranced shines: the visuals are vibrant and fluid, and the music, while compressed, captures the upbeat Crash vibe.

Standout Handheld Platformer #

Overall, this game is a standout GBA platformer that manages to feel authentically “Crash” despite the hardware constraints. It’s fast, challenging, and rewarding, a must-play for fans of the this mascot or anyone who loves well-crafted handheld platformers. I highly encourage doing 100% which is similarly satisfying when compared to other similar simpler titles, with hidden levels and secrets to make you invest a little more time into this title before putting it down.
